Creating a holiday look can be as easy as adding a festive red, elegant green, or a little sparkle to your everyday look. Throughout December and into the New Year, there are plenty of work parties, family gatherings, and general soirees with friends.

Color options are unlimited. Think of the colors on a Christmas tree or the lights as you’re walking down main street during the holiday season. Reds, greens, pinks, blues, gold, silver, purple, white, etc. all create a holiday look no matter the event.

Makeup

Upgrade any basic look with a classic red lip is the easiest way to take your day look into evening. A red lip during the day is seasonally acceptable even if you work in a more casual environment.

Shimmers and sparkles are fun textures to add to your eye shadow, lip color, and blush.  They add a holiday glow and can highlight to just the right places. If the event is a New Years Eve soiree, it’s a necessity to add some glitter and shimmer.

Subtle pinks, cool mauves, and rich burgundies and berries are always good options for the season. Golds, greens, deep blue, and dark purple are bold shades used as accents and highlights. Lighter shades with shimmer are great on the inside corner to open the eyes. Adding a deep shade to the outside corner and into the crease creates a dramatic eye. Colorful eyeliner or mascara adds a pop of color and easily converts your everyday look to holiday party glam.

Clothes

There are several options for all the seasonal gatherings ranging from casual office parties to formal or glamorous New Years bashes. Keep things classy and elegant by layering a lace top under a classic business suit. The lace top can have a little sparkle for a more festive look. Wear a statement blazer or jacket over your everyday attire. Or go all in with an entire statement outfit in a bold color like red, burgundy, or black with subtle sparkles. Layer a pretty cardigan over a simple dress or dress up your little black dress with a fun jacket or colorful heels.

Adding an accessory to make a look festive can be an economic option. Switching out your purse to a classic red bag or one with some texture like fringe or lace. Grab a sparkly clutch to dress up a simple monochromatic outfit. Let’s not forget about the fashion scarf and the fun, creative ways to wear them. A simple silk scarf can be worn in place of a necklace and can be tied similar to a necktie. A larger scarf made of heavier material can do double duty by being a fashion accessory and keeping you warm. If hats are your thing, a pretty red hat can be a statement piece when attending a festival of lights or perusing an ice sculpture gallery.

The ugly sweater is a tradition that is fun and simple. It removes “some” of the pressure of finding “the” perfect outfit. Many gatherings have turned it into a competition that allows some fun creativity.

Casual gatherings with friends and family don’t require significant extra effort. Add a fun gold or glittery vest. Accessories like earrings and scarves are perfect for these kinds of events.

Jewelry can help create whatever look you’re trying to capture. Fun or goofy earrings are perfect with ugly sweaters and to add a little “something” to your business suit look. Get some layering necklaces or bangle bracelets that are either gold, silver, pearl, or a combination. Of course, anything that sparkles and shines is great for a New Years event.

Below are some “go-to” SeneGence shades of lip color and shadows. Keep colors natural and lighter for more casual events and go bolder with formal soirees.

Remember to pick either the lip or the eyes to go bold and keep the other more natural. An extra glamorous look for and evening event would be the one occasion where having a bold eye and lip can still look elegant and classy.
